One of the “midwives of the Nativity”

During childbirth, the ancient apocrypha (religious texts not recognised by the Church) generally feature female characters, who appear to be midwives by trade.
This bas-relief shows Salome on the left, who came to assist the Virgin Mary after the birth of Jesus.
