Notre-Dame de Reims cathedral, built from 1211 onwards, is one of the major achievements of Gothic art in Europe.
It has played an important role in the history of France.
Twenty-five kings have been crowned in today’s cathedral, the most recent being Charles X in 1825, five years before Abbé Lecoutre was born.

Proportions
Abbé Lecoutre had to modify the proportions of the façade to fit the dimensions of the building, but his design is very elegant,
with the predominance of vertical lines that preserve the slender appearance.
